I really like this game by Big Huge Games and published by Microsoft called Rise of Nations. It's a real-time strategy game, meaning you have to manage an economy, technological advancement, and military to defeat your opponents. Generally, you can win by taking and holding your opponent's capital, taking and holding a significant percentage of the territory, or building significantly more Wonders of the World.
